Jeffrey Armstrong

South African violinist Jeffrey Armstrong enjoys a wide variety of musical engagements across Europe and in South Africa. During his studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Jeffrey’s commitment to multi-faceted music making was awarded with the Principal’s Prize for outstanding contribution to the life of the conservatoire. He is currently enrolled in the solo class of Elisabeth Kufferath at the HMTM Hanover. Important impulses include masterclasses and music-making with musicians such as Leonidas Kavakos, Lawrence Power, Antje Weithaas, and Eberhard Feltz among others.

As a soloist, Jeffrey has performed at a wide range of engagements, including performances in Germany, the UK and South Africa. Notably, he premiered Matthijs van Dijk’s violin concerto with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in June last year. He recently won first prize in the UNISA National Music Competition, leading to a performance and recording with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jeffrey is also joint founder of the Cape Chamber Music Collective; an organisation that has organised around 90 concerts in and around Cape Town in the past two years, and seeks to encourage and support high-level chamber music level at a grassroots level in South Africa.

He is grateful to perform on a violin by Stefan-Peter Greiner, 1997.

When not practising or listening to music, Jeffrey enjoys cooking, relaxing on the balcony at home, and dreaming up unusual and exciting projects involving friends and very often South Africa!
